“Sense the Wind”

Tuesday, June 20th  5 pm

Blind sailors race across open water learning not to fear what cannot be seen-
The 54 min documentary weaves together personal stories of 4 blind sailors who race in national and international regattas and gain the confidence to press beyond limits in life. They are diverse in backgrounds, age and skill but all share a passion to excel and in sport find camaraderie and community. Through this unique sport, we also step into their lives off the water, at home and at work. Through creative visual effects we begin to experience their unique vision.
The blind community is little noticed or understood, but Sense The Wind sheds a much-needed spotlight into their rich world. Examples of adventuresome blind sailors shatter stereotypes about blindness and impairment. These individuals demonstrate life’s possibilities. This film highlights ability, not disability.
Produced over 6 years, Sense The Wind was completed in 2015 and is in its festival and outreach preview phase, while seeking broadcast and distribution. The response from our pre-release screenings has been fantastic! Sense The Wind was recently given a Humanitarian Award following its NYC premiere at the Socially Relevant Film Festival and was selected by the Rhode Island International Film Festival. We are eager to share this family friendly film with more diverse audiences and bring it to your community.
